A little bit about the Company
Little Blue Zebra is a family business specialising in beautifully illustrated animal art by award-winning children's book illustrator, John Butler. His daughters set up Little Blue Zebra in 2008 so that his adorable pictures could be enjoyed as wall art as well as in books. Many of the illustrations in our prints are featured in his best-selling books: Whose Baby Am I?, Whose Nose and Toes?, Who Says Woof? and If You See a Kitten.
Each print and book from Little Blue Zebra is signed by John, carefully packaged and sent by our family team from our studio in Kent.
A little bit about the Team
John Butler - The Illustrator
John is an award-winning children's book illustrator and writer acclaimed for his lovable and realistic renderings of animals. He has worked for the most prestigious publishing houses, illustrating over 60 books enjoyed by children worldwide in 20 countries. He cannot remember a time when he didn't draw, a passion that has turned into a lifelong pastime. He grew up fascinated by the natural world and spent many blissful days exploring the wild woodland garden surrounding his childhood home. When he isn't holding a paintbrush or pencil, he can often be found sailing around the UK and French coasts! You can read more about John and his beautiful books at www.johnbutlerart.com
Lucy - The Designer
John's youngest daughter Lucy is a graphic designer who designs all the ranges. She used to work at The Sunday Times newspaper and is passionate about beautiful, timeless design with a contemporary edge. Long before she started working for a newspaper she was featured in one. As a toddler she got a cake tin stuck on her head, a drama only resolved with the help of some sympathetic, albeit slightly amused, local firemen. The event has not put her off baking - she makes a delicious Victoria sponge!
Joanna - The Business Brain
Joanna is John's eldest daughter and enjoys taking care of the business end at Little Blue Zebra. She has always been inspired by nature and wildlife and has degrees in Biology and Nature Conservation. After graduating she spent some time living amongst lions and elephants working as a game ranger in South Africa. She now enjoys enthusing her children about nature in the slightly less wild local parks and countryside!
Catherine - Creative Adviser and Granny Extraordinaire
Catherine is married to John (and Mum to Lucy and Joanna!). She was the one who first talked about the possibility of building Little Blue Zebra. Not only does she get very involved in the creative process behind our print ranges, over the years she has gone above and beyond the standard role of 'Granny' and provided hours and hours of wonderful childcare to the mini- LBZers whilst we grow the business! When she's not busy doing these things, Catherine is passionate about all things archaeological and enjoys mudlarking alongside the River Thames!
The Mini LBZers
When Little Blue Zebra first started there was only one baby in the team. He is now dangerously close to reaching the height of some of the grown up members at just nine years of age! He has also been joined by five others - three children each for Lucy and Joanna. Our own little tribe of trouble and fun - five boys, one girl!
